An Evening with Elders

Leos of Leo Club of Bokundara organized an Elders Care Project on the 29th October 2009 at the Salina de Alwis Elder’s Home. On that day we provided Tea for those elders and after that we spend some time with them asking about the problems they are facing and how we can help them. This project is one of the main events in our calendar. In previous months we gave Tea for the children in Jagaddhala Children Home. 12 Leos and 2 Parents were present at the occasion.
A new dawn… a new era… a new beginning…

“Our Club is like a computer system… there are different kinds of softwares… some are vital for existence… some existing softwares are not compatible with highly automated new softwares… there are some softwares which after installation we realize its virus… by the time we realize it, some softwares in the system are already affected.. We have no choice than un-installing these softwares along with cleaning the virus” quoted by President Leo Dilhari…
It was not easy… Not at all easy when half of the softwares were affected with virus… But still the system keeps running when the vital organs are up and active, how can it NOT when we have a superb virus guard to scan and clean… he he
Sometimes doing the correct thing gives us courage to go on… go on to be the best with a strength we had never before… If anyone noticed the 7 of us who were behind “diffracted” would have noticed the sleepless nights and strain behind the smiling faces… Empty pockets and last minute pressurized drama… Also if anyone noticed closely it must have been clear to see the happy faces tied with a true bond of spirit and friendship….
Someone said “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”
Here we are… with the same pace, same charisma and same spirit… only better with 7 new talented softwares installed 
Here we are…. we’ve just begun
and after all this time… our time has come
Here we are … still going’ strong
Right here in the place where we belong…

The 3rd general meeting for the month of October 2009/2010

The 3rd general meeting of the leo club of university of moratuwa was held on 07th October 2009 at the textile auditorium, university of moratuwa with contribution of more than 50 leos and leo prospect. The guest of honour of the occasion was the zone Chairman of the District 306A2 Lion Naleen Gunasekara and chief guest was vice president of the leo district 306A2 Leo Thilini Jayaweera. The most prominent event of the meeting was the induction of the Leo of the month according to the concept of the chairman of the club Leo Sameera Hewage.

After the meeting there had been an interactive session on report writing, done by Leo Hansi Sitinamaluwa and an orientation programme on the leonism conducted by Leo Ruwan Narampanawa which enhanced the value of the gathering.
“Heart to Heart”-Children’s Day programme in IDP camp at Vaunia

After the war has been ended everyone think that everything is fine.Yes it’s true that the violence has ended, but still there are people who are willing for our love and affection there.Because of the unnecessary war continued by the LTTE lot of children like us had lost their childhood.Not only they lost their childhood but also they lost their parents,brothers,sisters and many more.Some of them are disabled.They are none other than the victims of the LTTE by becoming child soldiers who are also our friends.We should show our love and respect to those innocent children.
So this year Leos of university of Moratuwa was engaged in a memorial event on the 1st of October ,showing that who are the real leos
and what actually their responsibility is.In collaboration with Rehabilitation Department of Sri Lanka,we organized a children’s day programme at the IDP camp in Vaunia on the Children’s Day in this year.Leo club of Colombo Circle in leodistrict B2 also j0int with us
in this major event.
At the end of the day,we were delighted by seeing the cherished faces of those children.Not only that but also the officers and soldiers of sri Lanka Army enjoyed the proceedings specially “The Magic Show” as they appreciated our immense work again and again.So once again Leo club of university of Moratuwa had done a magnificent job on behalf of the country.

Dengue Preventing Project

Dengue Fever suddenly has become a huge threat to our society. Thousands of people in different parts of the country have suffered from this in last six months.Dengue Fever is something we can prevent if we can pay our attention. This disaster has occurred because of our selves and the environmental pollution. So Leos of our Club decided to organize a Dengue Preventing Project in the Dengue Preventing week. We made a leaflet that includes how we can prevent Dengue and we should react after. On the 25th September evening we visited close to 100 houses in Madapatha area and distributed our leaflets and explained the importance of keeping their surrounding clean. We thought our effort was very successful after the appreciation we got from the villagers. We are looking forward to organize some more of these projects in near future as well.

The Lions Club of Moragahahena took the responsibility to sponsor our Leo Club after been without a Lions Club for almost two years.It was a new beginning for our club after a couple of challenging years. The banner Openning ceremony was held on the 27th Septtember 2009 at Camila School Hall Mattegoda. The chief guest for this occasion was District Governor Lion Nimal Aluthge. District President of Leo District 306 A2 Leo Dumindu Jayakody, Immediate Past President Leo Chathura Deshapriya, Lions Club members of Lions Club of Moragahahena and Leos of Leo Club of Moragahahena were also with us at this occasion.
Smile to Children

Smile to children child care project is one of the continuous projects of Leo Club of Bokundara. The project was started in year 2007.In that year we took the children of Jagaddala Childrens Home to watch the Dehiwala Zoo. In next year we took them to watch the ABA movie. In both Leo Conferences they were awarded as the Best Child Care Project. In this year we did this project to celebrate the World Children’s Day.As a gift for those innocent children we accompanied them to watch the latest children’s movie “Bindu” on the 4th of October at Tower Cinema Hall, Moratuwa. 26 children watched the movie with our Leos on that memorable day
